What Calvary Offers
MARY MARTHA GUILD
The Mary Martha Guild is one of 220 Societies belonging to LWML-Canada and is open to all
women of the church. They meet the first Monday of each month from September to June at one
o'clock. The meetings consist of a devotion/Bible study, committee reports, planning and some-
times a guest speaker.
They support missions throughout the world through LWML-Canada and Lutheran World Relief
as well as locally through Lutheran Community Centre, Shelter House and Faye Peterson Transition
House. Within the congregation they provide gifts for the confirmands, serve and provide funeral
luncheons with the help of the Love Circles.
Rallies are held Spring and Fall and in recent years a week-end retreat for women has been held in
August at Aurora Lutheran Bible Camp which provides women with an opportunity to have
fellowship with women from other churches across the region in a relaxed, informal setting.

Active Teens Together In Christ (ATTIC)
Are you interested in meeting new friends? Come alone or with a friend. We have had up to 40 teens participating in our group. We serve others, we have bible studies of all shapes and sizes, and we have the best social events ever! Their most visible activity in the church is the Shrove Tuesday supper that they make themselves and serve. It's a great evening. The money raised is used for mission projects and their retreat at the end of the year. Past mission projects include buying vitamins, school materials and even a cow (that's right) Öa cow for poor people in other countries. Past retreats include, Duluth, Quetico Centre, Camp Aurora and Lutsen Winnipeg and Wisconsin Dells. Our group usually meets twice a month, one time for a meeting with a small devotion/discussion and game, and the other meeting is a fun activity of some kind such as paint ball, hiking, Lutsen Slide, car rally and much more. Altar Guild
The Altar Guild is a group of dedicated women who prepare the alter for each service, making sure there are enough communion supplies, the table is set, the acolytes are prepared, and the paraments and banners are the appropriate colour for the season. They are very creative in beautifying the altar every Sunday. They also prepare and assist with the baptisms and during the confirmation of our young people. They are always looking for new people and new ideas. |

| Do you find it easy meeting new people? Can you find a way to introduce yourself and invite the visitor for coffee? Our group does just that. We watch for new faces, so they don't get lost in the crowd. We want them to know that we're thankful that they have chosen to worship with us. Then we listen for any special needs interests that they have and we direct them accordingly. Our group meets the 1st Sunday of the month at 12:15pm in the Education Wing. |
Contemporary Music Group - The Praise Raisers
On the second and fourth Sundays of each month 11:00 am service we have a team of people leading the contemporary worship songs. This is an energetic group of song leaders and they are always looking for members. |
Cleaning
From the beginning the building at Calvary have been cleaned by volunteers. As the building has grown, the Trustees have issued detailed easy-to-follow instructions as to what each cleaning area entails. As well as weekly cleaning, twice a year the members do a more thorough house cleaning - a time of fellowship and food! |
Friday School
This is a seasonal opportunity for kids and adults alike. Throughout Lent we run Friday School for six Friday's. We've had so much success with this program and it has really opened the door for kids to continue in Sunday School. Friday School starts at 7:00pm and runs till 8:30pm. The evening consists of a lesson, a craft, some games and a snack. |
From The Heart
The inspiration for this group comes from James 2:15,16 "Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, 'Go, I wish you well, keep warm and fed,' but do nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?" This group in practical ways works to channel needed items to group homes or existing agencies, to feed and clothe those in need. We also organize and serve dinners at the shelter house every 3rd Sunday of the month. We server approximately 100-120 persons each month. |
God's Men
Thursdays at 10:00am, rain or shine, warm or cold, some of Calvary's God's Men gather for some fellowship, coffee and conversation. Topics of discussion are as varied as the weather with a lot of ideas exchanged. "How to do" and "where to get", questions are readily answered by men eager to share expertise and talents. The gatherings are totally casual and all are welcome. Thursday mornings at 10:00am even during July and August. |
Abundant Life
Our group meets to share travel tips, faith, and just enjoy each others company. Common themes are travel insurance (medical) U.S. long distance phone carriers and best deals on motels etc. All are welcome not just people who spend winters in the USA. We always attempt to have a guest speaker so we not only have fun but also learn something about living at our meetings which are held the first Thursday of the month at 2:00pm. Bob and Veryle McCulloch are our leaders: 939-1413 |
Greeters
We are a concerned and friendly group of volunteers who try to make visitors and members feel loved and welcome in Calvary Lutheran Church. We try to have visitors sign the guest book so we can follow-up on their visit to ensure they know we care about them. Donna Renaud is always there to help and can usually introduce new people to you. If you would like to becoomea "Greeter" or have any questions please contact Veryle McCulloch or Carol Schmidt. |
Calvary's Fellowship Team
Calvary's Fellowship Team has a motto it is "Sharing God's Love Through Fellowship." The team provides coffee, cakes and cookies for our Sunday morning coffee after the service. We also help organize social events throughout the year such as food for the "Open House - Barbeque " in Sept., a Chili Supper Christmas Carol Sing-a-long in Dec., Mother's Day Dinner in May served by the men in the congregation and a Father's Day barbeque. Fellowship is an important part of our Ministry here at Calvary and we do enjoy sharing this with you. If you would like to bring some baking(cookies or whatever) for Sunday coffee, just leave it in the kitchen and mark it "For Sunday Coffee". If you would like more information, please call the church office at 623-8735. |
Quilters
Since 1987 the Quilters have been meeting Thursday mornings at 9:30am, usually after Thanksgiving (Oct.). Some of us make a day of it and bring some lunch to share. All materials are donated from members of the congregation and friends. Gardevine North has been most generous in delivering the quilts free of charge to Winnipeg. From there Canadian Lutheran World Relief sends them all over the world(Zambia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Israel, Cuba just to name a few). We welcome anyone to join and help us with this worthwhile mission project. the hours are flexible and no experience is required. We always need ladies to tie finished quilts, iron material, cut material, sew material and cut squares. If you are interested and need more information call the church office at 623-8735 |
